Shetland Wildlife & Archaeology
From £1,995
Summary
Wonderful archaeology, abundant birdlife, beautiful and rugged landscapes
The islands beyond the northernmost tip of Scotland glory in some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes in the world. For more than 5,000 years they have been home to farmers and fishermen who left their mark here with over 8,000 sites recorded in the Sites and Monuments Record. Situated midway between the UK mainland and the Arctic, in the flight path of migratory birds and surrounded by nutrient rich waters, they are also home to an abundance of wildlife from porpoises and puffins to seals and skuas. On this tour we discover not only the wonderful archaeology of the islands but also their abundant bird life, sea life and stark white beaches.
