Giles MacDonogh is an academically trained historian and the author of fifteen books: eleven on history and another four on wine. Most of the history books are about Germany and span the period from the birth of Frederick the Great until the reign of Angela Merkel.
He has been a journalist and a translator, and once upon a time he even taught a bit. He also leads a few cultural tours, most recently he took a group to the Somme.
He has frequently appeared on Sky News and has been interviewed for historical documentaries on television and radio. In September he featured in two of the three episodes of the very successful BBC 2 series, The Rise of the Nazis.
He is an authority on wine and a former jury chairman for Germany and Austria at the World Wine Awards. He is a keen cook and when he finds the time he paints.
