Eleanor is a trained archaeometallurgist who specialises in Early Medieval metalwork. Her primary fieldwork experience is at Sedgeford in Norfolk, where she is the director of excavation of the largest trench.

She is interested in all aspects of Anglo-Saxon life, and industrial processes such as metalwork, glassworking and now malting. Her PhD focused on the technology of Anglo-Saxon and Viking iron production and iron knives. Since then she has carried out research on the metal objects from the Staffordshire Hoard and more recently the objects from Anglo-Saxon Rendlesham. At Sedgeford the current focus of excavation is a large internationally significant malting complex.
