Dr Katya Melamed

Dr Katya Melamed is a Bulgarian archaeologist who enjoys an enviable reputation for her longstanding research and excavation work throughout the country. Now retired, Katya worked for many years at the National Institute of Archaeology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and was formerly Head of the Medieval Department at Sofia’s Archaeological Museum. Specialising in the Middle Ages Katya has a particular interest in the continuation of burial practices from the Thracians to the Christian and has published widely in both Bulgarian and English.
